Reflection of week 4
In this reflection week
we had two parts which are shadowing and Haage-Helia on Porvoo Campus:
Part 1:
Reflection
of shadowing session no.3(shadowing sessions)
Date:
23 apr 2012:
Group EFG : Othman Amin, Othman Fallatah, Khalid
Alfaris and Nawaf Almzaini.
Introduction:
The third shadowing
is about the Data Structure and Algorithms course by Dr. Jarkko. The session also
token in Metropolia University of Applied Science. We met
Doctor about 15 mint before the lecture started at 10 am. Throw the desiccation with him about the
course, he gave us the course's outline. Eight students were attended. the
methodology of teaching was cognitive by using the structures content of
learning activity. As he said the students have grade from 1 to 5 and one final
exam.
My special comments:
It was a good opportunity to met the doctor for
give us overview and desiccation. This is made the shadowing more easily of
understanding the course. It can be seen the behavior of the doctor's teaching
was very comfortable and attractive for the students. One more nice idea of his
teaching, he started from the easy basic to difficult of knowledge. It can said
the student were more concentrating because the clear of his teaching.
In summary, from above some idea I mentioned
for this shadowing I should try to implement in my future teaching.
Reflection
of shadowing session no.4
Date:
24 Apr 2012:
Group EFG : Othman Amin, Othman Fallatah, Khalid
Alfaris and Nawaf Almzaini.
Introduction:
The fourth
shadowing was the session of Introduction to calculus. the instructor of the course is Mr. Timo
Salin. We met him about five mint before the session started at 10 am. The
students were 10 at the end of the class. The methodology of his teaching was
cognitive by using the structures content of learning activity as well. In
addation, the students given such exercises to practice. The grade is dividing
into two exams(60 marks) and homeworks (40 marks and some bounce marks). The
student have to get 40% out of 60 marks to pass the course.
My special comments:
My first comment is asking the stuff if Metropolia University of Applied Science: why they used old board in their new
classes?.
It might be said
that the teacher is very helpful with his students and teaching. The methodology
his teaching very clear for the students. This is because he started explain
the main role then exercise to practice it in the class. At the end of this shadowing, I would like to apply
dispensation of mark .
Reflection
of shadowing session no.5
Date:
25 Apr 2012:
Group EFG : Othman Amin, Othman Fallatah, Khalid
Alfaris and Nawaf Almzaini.
Introduction:
The fifth shadowing
was a tutorial for Engineering electronics
course. the instructor of the course is Dr.Timo Leinonen. The session also token in Metropolia University of Applied Science. We
met Doctor before the tutorial started at 8 am.
Through the desiccation with him
about the course, he gave us most of the course's handout and exercises. The
attended were 12 students. the methodology of teaching was very clear cognitive by using the
structures content of learning activity. The evaluation grade is from 1 to 5
and one final exam.
My special comments:
The doctor is
amusing . we token time with him for desiccation about the course before the tutorial started.
Through this desiccation I comment as jock on his signature " what is
your beautiful signature ..." then he answered with high laugh " my Boss also like it….". In fact, our shadowing was a tutorial not lab
session as it organized before. This is because of his structure of teaching
was two tutorial then one lab. I observed the doctor joint two way for his
teaching which are funny and clearly. So that I like implement these ways in
future teaching. I like his control on the class for example those students who
came late ten minutes and more, he stopped the teach and comment them. On the
other hand, I would like from the staff of
hage hilea university to trans my special thank to Dr. Timo Leinonen about his
invited us for trough the break time coffee at their staff rest room. This
was opportunity to get his experience
teaching .. and this what we needed and like it.
Part
2:
Reflection
of the visiting Porvoo campus :
Introduction:
When we
arrival Porvoo Campus the staff was warm welcome us, then introduce Campus
development of the concept and initial ideas behind the planning process.
After that,
take us around the building to show the best
facilities design school in Finland for the students and staff.
In summary :
The Porvoo campus is the new facilities for comfortable education for all of needed which will
resulting in good outcome of their students graduate.
On the other
hand, the benefit that I got from this visiting will
trans to some institutes doesn’t have
like this ideas to implement as they can
to enhanced and motivated their students

Hi,
ReplyDeleteJust a quick answer to your question from a bus: when you say "old board" do you refer to blackboard and chalk? I think blackboard is the choice of mathematicians round the world. When I studied math at Helsinki University about ten years ago, the professor there argued that blackboard is excellent because it's so big that it is easy to fit long calculation to it. He even mentioned that at MIT even corridor walls are covered with blackboards so that mathematicians can staart doodling their thoughts to their colleagues, should they happen to bump to eachother in the corridoor! So, I think it is the tradition in math education that warrants blackboards even in new buildings.

Hello,
ReplyDeleteyou have written extensive reports of the four first weeks, but unfortunately that only covers one third of the program. As you know, a completed learning journal is one of the requirements for getting a certificate, so I really hope you will have some time during the week end to write the missing reflections.
